More Than 200 Participants Attend Awareness Program & 1st Alumni Meet of Department of Cardiology
Lucknow: The Department of Cardiology at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences organized a grand celebration of World Hypertension Day along with its 1st Alumni Meet at the Conference Hall, Administrative Block, RMLIMS, Lucknow. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 200 faculty members, doctors, residents, students, healthcare workers, alumni, and staff members.
In a unique and impactful public health initiative, the Department made it mandatory for every participant attending the program to know and record their blood pressure reading before entry into the venue. The “BP Reading” itself acted as the symbolic “ticket to entry,” reinforcing the powerful message of World Hypertension Day
“Know Your Numbers.”
The event was inaugurated in the august presence of Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) C. M. Singh, Guest of Honour Dr. Mukul Misra, Dean Dr. Pradyumn Singh, Executive Registrar Dr. Subrat Chandra, along with senior faculty members and alumni of the department.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) C. M. Singh emphasized that hypertension is one of the biggest silent health threats in society today and that awareness, lifestyle modification, and regular BP monitoring can significantly reduce the burden of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. He appreciated the Department of Cardiology for organizing an innovative awareness campaign linking blood pressure screening directly with participation in the event.
Dr. Mukul Misra reflected on the remarkable journey of the department, which started in 2011 and welcomed its first DM Cardiology resident in 2013 with only one candidate. He expressed happiness that the department today has grown into a vibrant academic and clinical center with 23 alumni contributing across various institutions.

Dr. Pradyumn Singh highlighted the importance of preventive cardiology and stressed that controlling hypertension at an early stage can save thousands of lives. He encouraged young doctors and healthcare professionals to actively participate in community awareness programs.
Dr. Subrat Chandra appreciated the department for combining academic excellence with public health awareness and congratulated the faculty and alumni for strengthening the legacy of cardiology services at RMLIMS.
Organizing Chairman Dr. Bhuwan Chandra Tiwari said that hypertension is often ignored because it remains symptomless for years. He emphasized that every individual must know their blood pressure values just like they know their mobile number or bank balance. He further added that awareness, reduced salt intake, physical activity, stress management, and regular health checkups are essential steps toward preventing cardiovascular diseases.
The scientific session included expert lectures on prevention and treatment of hypertension delivered by cardiology experts, followed by interaction sessions with alumni and residents. The alumni meet also celebrated the academic journey and growth of the Department of Cardiology over the years.
The Department acknowledged the contribution of all faculty members, residents, nursing officers, technicians, and staff members for making the event successful.
The program concluded with a collective pledge to spread awareness regarding hypertension and encourage people to regularly monitor their blood pressure to prevent heart disease and stroke.
